The quality of a university is defined by the caliber of its faculty. For those faculty members who have achieved great distinction in their fields, there is no higher honor an institution can bestow than an endowed professorship. Having endowed chairs to offer during the hiring process and to deserving standing faculty helps Penn recruit and retain eminent scholars who contribute to the intellectual life of our community, disseminate knowledge to graduate and undergraduate students, and help bring other leading academicians to Penn. Increasing resources to support faculty and staff is a priority for every School and Center.

Endowed Professorships ($3 million)
An Endowed Professorship is a notable honor in academia. This recognition universally validates the work of accomplished teachers, mentors, scholars, and thought leaders. It provides assured financial support that moves their research forward, enhances their ability to secure additional funding, and extends their influence beyond campus.
Presidential Professorships ($1.5 million)
Presidential Professorships are awarded to exceptional scholars of any rank. Selected on the basis of their achievements, with an emphasis on enhancing the diversity of Penn’s faculty, Presidential Professors enrich the academic community and bring new perspectives to our students and faculty.
